The National Council joins the global discussion on the governance of digital platforms

10.02.2026

Between 11 and 13 February 2026, in Pretoria, Republic of South Africa, the International Conference on Digital Platform Governance will take place, organized within the framework of the Global Forum of Networks (GFN), launched in 2024 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. A member of the National Council, Oleksandr Burmahin, will participate in the event.

The conference is being held in implementation of UNESCO’s global initiative “Internet for Trust” and is dedicated to assessing progress and challenges in the application of UNESCO’s Guidelines for the Governance of Digital Platforms at both global and regional levels.

Participants will discuss algorithmic transparency, platform accountability, countering disinformation and hate speech, protecting human rights online, and ensuring the security of the information space, particularly during electoral processes. The event is organized with the support of UNESCO and a number of international and regional networks of regulatory authorities, with the aim of bringing together regulators, governments, digital platforms, civil society, academia, and international organizations to strengthen cooperation and advance a human‑rights‑based action plan for digital platform governance.

The conference is aimed at developing practical solutions to strengthen the protection of human rights online, ensure transparency and accountability of digital platforms, and enhance the resilience of democratic institutions against information threats. By participating in the conference and the activities of the Global Forum of Networks, the National Council contributes to shaping modern approaches to the regulation of audiovisual media and digital platforms in line with UNESCO’s international standards.
