Chair of the National Council Olha Herasymiuk met with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Jan Braathu
During the conversation, the National Council and the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media discussed further cooperation. The parties identified several practical areas for joint work.
One of these areas is supporting the resilience of the Ukrainian media environment. Jan Braathu shared his observations on the ability of Ukraine’s information space to function under conditions of war, information attacks, and pressure from digital platforms.
The parties also agreed to organize an exchange of experience on working with digital platforms. The OSCE plans to involve European partners in this process, who have achieved practical results in this field.
In this context, Olha Herasymiuk and Jan Braathu agreed on the translation into Ukrainian of the OSCE Policy Manual Safeguarding Media Freedom in the Age of Big Tech Platforms and AI. The publication is dedicated to protecting media freedom in the face of the influence of major technology platforms and the development of artificial intelligence.
The discussion also touched upon media self‑regulation. Olha Herasymiuk emphasized that this process in Ukraine needs to be supported and strengthened. To this end, the National Council and the OSCE plan to organize an exchange of experience with countries where media self‑regulation is well‑established. Such dialogue will help Ukrainian media assess different models and determine what can be adapted to the specific features of Ukraine’s information space.
The National Council and the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media will continue communication and work on the agreed areas.
