With gratitude and pride, today Ukraine bestows honours to the brave compatriots who, at the cost of their own lives, defended our nation’s European choice and the right to shape its future 11 years ago.
The events of the winter of 2013–2014 shook and united Ukrainian society and the entire world. People from all regions, of different ages and professions—Ukrainians with a strong civic position and indomitable spirit—demonstrated unprecedented solidarity in their aspiration to live in the European home according to democratic values. From months of protest, a strong and united nation was born—one that did not allow democracy in Ukraine to be dismantled and turned into a pro-Russian dictatorship.
The deed of the fearless 107 sons and daughters of Ukraine became a symbol of the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people, inspiring resolute struggle every day against the insatiable “Russian world.”
The names of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred are forever inscribed in the history of the independent European Ukraine. Great honor to the Heroes who today continue this mission with weapons in their hands.
Today, we must all stand as they did—shoulder to shoulder—and complete the mission, holding the line firmly.
