The 27th plenary session of the CDMSI has started today in Strasbourg – Ukraine is represented by Olha Herasymiuk

Today, June 18th, Strasbourg is the starting point of the 27th plenary session of the Council of Europe’s Steering Committee on Media and Information Society (CDMSI). The meeting is being attended by the Chair of the National Council, Olha Herasymiuk, who represents Ukraine.

On the agenda are issues related to freedom of expression, threats to it in the modern world, and possible measures to ensure its proper implementation.

The progress of the Council of Europe’s Campaign for the Safety of Journalists “Journalists Matter” in member states will also be reviewed, and the Europe Press Freedom Report will be presented.

The results of the CDMSI expert committees’ work will be overviewed. In particular, the Committee of Experts Online Safety and Empowerment of Content Creators and Users will present the draft recommendations of the same name, and the Committee of Experts on the Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence for Freedom of Speech – a draft guidance note on the implications of generative AI for freedom of expression.

Among other things, the meeting will discuss issues of countering disinformation, content moderation on social media, hate speech, the immersive reality applications and their implications on freedom of expression, etc.

Information will also be presented on the activities of the European Audiovisual Observatory and the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA). A separate report will address the implementation of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive and the European Media Freedom Act.
