
During her participation in the work of the 224th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, currently taking place in Paris, Chair of the National Council Olha Herasymiuk met with the newly appointed Assistant Director-General of the Organization for Communication and Information, Mariya Gabriel.
The subject of the talks was the deepening of cooperation between Ukraine and UNESCO in the field of communication and information.
Olha Herasymiuk and Mariya Gabriel reviewed the activities and future cooperation plans of the national committees with UNESCO’s intergovernmental Information for All Programme (IFAP) and the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC).
Olha Herasymiuk and Mariya Gabriel also discussed the need to improve the functioning mechanisms of UNESCO’s working groups. The Chair of the media regulator emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and communication among all working groups in order to ensure transparency, inclusiveness, and collective participation, in line with the principles of open and equitable cooperation within IFAP.
The Assistant Director-General of UNESCO highly praised Ukraine’s active engagement in the Sector’s programmes and assured of continued strong support for our country in strengthening the resilience of the media space, protecting journalists, and building an inclusive information society.
As a reminder, during the 224th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, currently taking place in Paris, the Member States of the Organization approved the Emergency Assistance Programme for Ukraine. This decision consolidates and expands UNESCO’s urgent measures aimed at overcoming the catastrophic consequences of Russia’s full-scale aggression against our country.
